Trial of HPV vaccine completed: more effective cancer prevention

A new HPV (human papilloma virus) vaccine that protects against 9 types of the virus – 7 of which cause most cases of cervical cancer – has now been fully tested in a trial co-organised by Professor Jack Cuzick in the Barts CR-UK Centre.

The new vaccine offers significantly greater protection than the current vaccine, which protects against only two cancer-causing types of HPV...

It's World Cancer Day: one in two people will develop cancer at some point in their lives, according to the most accurate forecast to date from the Barts CR-UK Centre for Cancer Prevention.

This increase from the previous estimate of 1 in 3 people highlights the need to improve public health and NHS cancer services so they can cope with a growing and ageing population...

Celebrity effect on cervical screening and diagnosis

Dr Adam Rosenthal's group has had a study published in the British Journal of Cancer led by two former medical school undergraduate students: Genevieve Casey and Ben Morris.

The aim was to establish whether coverage of a celebrity diagnosed with cancer could have a knock-on effect on cancer diagnoses over the following time period. If so, what common factors (if any) would those newly diagnosed cases share?
