Student life

At Barts Cancer Institute, you will find a rich social life, something which past and current students have noted as one of the highlights of the Institute.

It is difficult to imagine a more vibrant and exciting place to be a student than in London. The picturesque Charterhouse Square campus is ideally placed for exploring the city, with underground and bus routes located nearby to roam further afield.

Student support

In addition to academic support and tuition, the University also provides support during your studies, these include:

BCI Teaching Office

We have a dedicated Teaching Office to provide advice and support with regards to your programme of study and signposting to Student Services throughout the University.

Advice and Welfare 

The Queen Mary Advice and Counselling Service offer a free and confidential service for all Queen Mary students.

The professional team of experts can provide assistance on a variety of issues including:

  • Student finance (student loans, tuition fees, grants etc)
  • Fee payment problems
  • Immigration 
  • International student issues
  • Postgraduate funding
  • Disability benefits
Student representatives

Each programme will elect two student representatives. Student representatives will be invited to represent their cohort at Staff Student Liaison Committee meetings (one per semester) - to give feedback on the student experience and contribute to future developments.

Overseas students

We have a diverse staff and student population and welcome students from around the world.
Our International Office offers comprehensive support to international students during the application and admissions process, with the aim of helping you choose the right course and to ease the transition to studying in the UK.

About us

Barts Cancer Institute was formed in 2003 and is one of the Institutes within The Faculty of Medicine and DentistryQueen Mary University of London.

The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry brings together two venerable teaching institutions: St Bartholomew's Hospital, which dates back to 1123, and The London Hospital Medical College, which was the first medical school in England and Wales, founded in 1785.
