Prof Bijendra Patel is a surgeon and a world leader in integrating technology-enhanced learning for medical education. In October 2005, he pioneered this concept by creating the world’s first Master’s course in acquiring surgical skills by virtual reality simulation (MSc Surgical Skills and Sciences) at the Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London to “Globalise And Fast-Track Surgical Training”
He has also pioneered the concept of “Hands-on Laparoscopic Surgical Training On-line" for globalisation of surgical education by launching world’s first immersive distance learning Master’s course in 2018 based on competency-based training model and surgical simulation using multimedia platform including VR, eLearning, Mobile phone and Portable box trainer.
He is also founder president of the Society of Surgical Simulation and also the founder and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Surgical Simulation, the first academic journal dedicated to publishing research in the fields of surgical simulation.
