The hard work of the students enrolled on the Postgraduate Taught Courses and PhD studentships here at the Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) paid off yesterday (Thursday 19th December) when they graduated at the Queen Mary University of London, School of Medicine and Dentistry Winter Graduation Ceremony. Approximately 80 MSc students graduated from the BCI yesterday, with roughly 50% of them achieving a Distinction.
Prizes for best overall student and best dissertation were awarded to students on each of the BCI Postgraduate Taught Courses in recognition of their efforts.
Danielle Hilton, who was awarded the prize for Best Student on the MSc Cancer & Molecular Pathology and Genomics course said:
“Studying for my MSc this past year has been challenging, but so unbelievably rewarding, and I feel so privileged to receive this award after a year of late nights and early mornings. I would just like to thank all of the incredible teaching staff for their support over the past year, and also to my peers and family, without whom none of this would be possible.”
Jonathan Halim, who was awarded the prize for Best Student on the MSc Laparoscopic Surgery & Surgical Skills course said:
“During my time on the MSc Laparoscopic Surgery & Surgical Skills course, I made global friends and gained valuable surgical and research skills. I am grateful for this experience and thankful to have received the prize for Best Student.”
Joshua Jelley, winner of the prize for Best Presentation on the MSc Laparoscopic Surgery & Surgical Skills course said:
"It has been an honour to study alongside an international community of friends and peers, striving towards a common goal of furthering our surgical education. I am grateful to have received my award and would like to recognise the support of all the staff, my friends and family for allowing this to be possible."
