My main research interests are the development of improved therapy for lymphoma and leukaemia.
Professor Lister has held memberships in many committees throughout his career, including the role of Chairman of the Association of Cancer Physicians, and the Royal College of Physicians subcommittee on medical oncology. His contribution is reflected in his election to the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal College of Pathology and Radiology without examination.
Professor Andrew Lister graduated with Honours from University of Cambridge in 1966, then enrolled with the Medical College at St. Bartholomew's Hospital. After obtaining the MRCP in 1972, he trained in the Dept. of Medical Oncology at St. Bartholomew's Hospital as an ICRF Research Fellow and Honorary Registrar.
In 1976-77 he worked as a Cancer Research Campaign Fellow at Sidney Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA before accepting a position as Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Physician at St. Bartholomew's Hospital. In 1987, Professor Lister gained the role of Postgraduate Assistant Dean for the Medical College of St. Bartholomew's Hospital where he had previously studied, and later became Professor of Clinical Oncology.
During 1994, he came to be the Director of Cancer Services and Clinical Haematology at St. Bartholomew's and the London NHS Trust, the Director of the Medical Oncology Unit at St. Bartholomew's in 1995, and the Director of the East London Regional Cancer Centre in 1999.
Professor Lister took the role of Centre Lead for Medical Oncology at Barts Cancer Institute in 2004, where he was awarded the status of Emeritus Professor in 2010.
