Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is part of Queen Mary Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London, which is ranked 1st in London for Medicine (The Guardian University Guide 2021 - subject rankings). With the Centre for Prevention, Detection & Diagnosis at Queen Mary's Wolfson Institute of Population Health, the BCI is a key partner in the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) City of London Centre, a world-leading hub dedicated to cancer biotherapeutics.
The BCI Teaching Centre is situated on the Charterhouse Square campus and provides support for over 160 postgraduate students. There are over 350 scientists across our Research Centres, creating a unique grouping of expertise dedicated to clinical cancer care, cancer research and excellence in teaching.
Our courses are taught by experts in the field and the innovative learning environment offers you an exceptional learning experience, exposure to modern techniques and state-of-the-art laboratories. We are committed to developing the next generation of scientists and clinicians. The aim of our courses and training is to further your understanding, research and career development in the field of cancer.
Each year we offer around 10-15 new PhD studentships funded from a variety of sources, including UK Research Councils and various charities, which are advertised throughout the year.
Our cancer programmes cover a variety of areas, including molecular biology, pathology of cancer, cancer treatments and therapies, cancer pharmacology, prevention and screening, diagnostics and research skills.
